Carbon Poker Review & $600 Bonus

UPDATE: Carbon Poker is slow paying or not paying its players – Avoid for now

Carbon Poker is particularly keen to welcome new players who are based in the USA and will give you a free initial 100% deposit bonus that could add up to $600 to your bankroll, but this review can reveal a whole lot more goodies.

They accept residents of all except ten of the US states. If you are located in one of these states you can not currently join (accurate at time of writing but subject to change): Kentucky, Nevada, Louisiana, New Jersey, Washington, Maryland, New York, Washington, Missouri and Delaware. Everyone else can register and play.

As a new player you will also be given 14 days entry for a New Depositor’s $500 Freeroll which takes place every day. That means you can play in a $500 poker tournament FREE every day for your first 14 days, which is pretty amazing! More Information on how to make the most of the welcome bonus is given below.

They also have five $200 freerolls every single day for existing players, among many other ongoing promos. There is a VIP Points system as well, to reward you after you have joined. Just take a look at the promotions page on their site to see all the myriad of offers available to existing players at any one time.

They also have Bead Beat Jackpot tables. If you have four of a kind 7s then you can’t lose can you? Well you certainly can not lose here because if a hand of 4 x 7s or better is beaten then your losing hand earns you a share of the Bad Beat Jackpot. The loser gets 30% of the jackpot and the winner gets 17.5%. Everyone else at the table also gets some of it! At the time of our review this jackpot was over $150,000 and it can get an awful lot higher.

Carbon Poker is part of the substantial and expanding Merge Gaming Network. That means that there will never be any shortage of players and the range of different games is truly awesome. You can also be certain that you are playing on a very stable platform with superb security standards. Merge’s unique gaming software has passed the most stringent testing procedures.

About Carbon Poker:

This online poker room has demonstrated consistent commitment to US based players since they were first established. Since 2007 they have been owned by poker.com and been part of the Merge network. They are fully regulated and licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission in Canada and have a good reputation. Our review can confirm that the level of security at Carbon Poker is exemplary with no issues being reported.

Nationalities that can register and play

As part of this Carbon Poker review we asked them this exact question because the smallprint on their site is unclear on this. Their answer was that this does alter now and then according to regulatory requirements, but at time of writing every nationality and USA resident could join EXCEPT residents of the following six US states: New York, Kentucky, Washington DC, Maryland, Missouri and Louisiana. Also residents of Australia and Singapore not accepted. Everyone else is welcome.

Playing Poker at Carbon Poker

One glance at the home page will tell you exactly how many players are currently online and the number of tables and tournaments in progress (they are located under the player admin and login section on the top right). This Carbon Poker review was written mid week and there were over 12,400 players online occupying 1098 tables and 428 tournaments in progress at the time. Unlike many other poker sites Carbon can confidently offer total transparency on player volumes at all times. Those volumes are growing all the time and at weekends the figures we have quoted are much higher.

This site is very strong on the number and choice of tournaments that are available all day, every day. There are live tournament satellites, impressive Bounty Poker tourneys and Sit and Gos. The jewel in their tourney crown is their $100K Guaranteed Tournament on Sundays.

The ubiquitous Texas Hold’em is available at Carbon Poker in the usual ring game (or cash game) or tournament formats. Ring games are available at every stake level. There are play money games, micro limit games or $25/$50 games for those who prefer higher stakes. There is a similarly extensive range of Hold’em tournaments for you to choose from with freerolls several times a day as well as tournaments with widely differing buy-in levels.

Omaha is also offered in the same formats as Hold’em with an extensive choice of games. Both straight Omaha and Hi/Lo are on offer. As the second most popular choice you will find plenty of action in limit, pot limit and no limit games.

If you would like a change from Hold’em or Omaha, there is no better online poker room than Carbon Poker. Stud is available in a variety of formats including 7 card stud, 5 card stud and Hi Lo Stud. As stud is less popular than Omaha and Hold’em, do not expect to find a tournament on offer every day. They are held on an occasional basis, often as part of a monthly promotion.

Other games on offer include Razz and Draw Poker with Triple Draw, 5 card and Badugi. Expect to find cash games rather than tournaments though. 5 card draw is one of the more popular choices within this group of games with limit, pot limit and joker options on offer.

Carbon Poker Deposits and Payouts

As always, depositing money is a whole lot easier than withdrawing it if you are based in the USA. Carbon Poker advises you to log in to the Player Admin cashier to view the best methods of both depositing and withdrawing your money.

If you take a look at the Banking section before you have joined them, just remember to put United States in the region box to see the methods currently recommended. In early 2012 they made it very clear that you can make your deposits by credit card including Visa and Mastercard but they do not name these as a method of withdrawing your money. If your bank is one of those who are reluctant to let you make deposits online with your credit card, Carbon Poker suggest that you use it to set up an eWalletXpress account. Once you have your own eWalletXpress account in action, depositing money should always be a simple, single click process.

Carbon Poker recommend that their US based players use Click2Pay both to deposit and withdraw their money. Another method of withdrawal is by check but, depending on how lucky you are with the timing of your withdrawal request, waiting times can occasionally be quite lengthy. The other issue with check withdrawals is that they may charge up to $15 per withdrawal. If you like to make regular small withdrawals Carbon Poker is not the best poker site for you.

On the positive side, Carbon is very security conscious and may use a verification procedure to prevent fraud. This may involve charging an amount slightly less than the deposit you intended to make to your credit card. For example, if you wanted to deposit $200 they might charge your credit card $199.94 and ask you to confirm the amount charged just to make sure that you are the credit card holder as you will be able to see the actual amount charged on your statement. Similarly, you may have to provide proof of identity (such as a recent utility bill) before a withdrawal may be permitted. Yes, it can be annoying to have to mess around with extra paperwork but at least they are making sure that you are the right person to receive the withdrawal. All good online online betting companies follow these sorts of procedures anyway.

Carbon Poker 100% First Deposit Bonus of up to $600

When you make your initial deposit do not forget to enter their special first deposit code of UPTO600 to make sure you get the opportunity to earn your 100% welcome bonus. If you want the chance to earn the maximum $600 free bonus you will need to make a first deposit of at least $600.

You will then be awarded VIP points when you play in qualifying games and will receive your bonus automatically, in $5 denominations, each time you gain 375 VIP points. 75 VIP points are awarded to you each time you spend $1. This follows the same pattern as works on all the other poker sites – earn player points and the bonus is released in stages accordingly. If you would rather start with a smaller initial deposit, the minimum deposit is just $10.

Carbon Poker Review Summary & Conclusion

This website compares very well with other US friendly sites. The range and choice of games is impressive with good incentives and promotions on offer for both new and loyal existing players. As part of the growing Merge network, there is plenty of action 24/7. It is on a different network to Bovada (Its own network with Bodog) and Intertops (Cake Network). In the opinion of this review that is a good reason to join as it offers something alternative. Provided you do not want to make lots of small withdrawals, we can confidently recommend Carbon Poker to all USA based players.

My initial withdraw was for 2500, it took 2 months to receive my check, just to find they made the withdrawal 2500.07. because of the 07 cents the bank had to send the check to Canada where the check was drawn. It took another month to receive my funds. Ok I did receive my winnings. My second withdraw was for $1100. I still have the check in my room as the bank returned it stating it was fraudulent. Now consider the first check was cashed, the second was returned and my money was placed back in my poker account. But like I said I still have the check, hmmmm. Since I complained I have had more aces cracked than any other site, in one day I had them cracked in 4 different tournaments, 4, and I mean with the stupidest hands, 39 off suit, etc. This is a daily occurrence with them and I am not the only player noticing this. Think twice before playing here.

Carbon Poker has come through in an arena where a few firms have disappeared or, like scam artists Lock Poker, have turned to theft. Carbon is getting better all the time.
